The bitches are utter bitches, yes, but they're also trivial, self-obsessed teenage girls. Click here to read my review of the novel Carrie. Carrie disappointingly stands in the shadow of the classic 1976 original film for the fans but for a new audience who still doesn’t know her, I think you’ll be a bit appreciative of her and a lesser bully critically.
Sue and Danny sacrifice their prom night together to give Carrie a special night to remember. Read honest and unbiased product reviews from our users. This isn't a movie chock full of role models, but at least Ms. Desjardin genuinely cares about Carrie and doesn't want the "mean girls" to bully her. De Palma knows how silly they are and gives us plenty of sly comedy. A more feminine slant elevates this remake to something interesting, even if the film is overwrought and essentially unnecessary. At the same time, it offers glimmers of surprising depth, as in its flashbacks to Carrie’s ill-advised romance with her English professor (Colin O’Donoghue) when she was just 16.
