If you are in South County Dublin visit the Hell Fire Club. The old building ruins are located on the foot of Montpelier hill and along with an outstanding view of Dublin city and beyond. The Hell Fire car park and the main entrance to the forest is situated about 6.5km south of Rathfarnham on R115 to Glencullen.

The original Dublin Hellfire Club was actually only around for a handful of years, but the legend has proved larger than life. In 1781, Dashwood's nephew Joseph Alderson (an undergraduate at Brasenose College, Oxford) founded the Phoenix Society (later known as the Phoenix Common Room), but it was only in 1786 that the small gathering of friends asserted themselves as a recognised institution.
To this day, the dining society abides by many of its predecessor's tenets.
Hell Fire is located in the Dublin Mountains, only a half hour bus or car journey's time from the centre of Dublin. Montpelier Hill, better known as The Hellfire Club to Dubliners, is a lovely place for a weekend walk.
On the weekends you can find it busy with urbanites escaping the city and dogs running free.
