Seymour Chwast was born in New York City and is a graduate of The Cooper Union, where he studied illustration and graphic design. Seymour Chwast, with his playful, expressive approach to type and layout, started a new wave of design based on revivalism and helped to formulate a graphic lexicon built from knowledge, appreciation and reapplication of past styles and forms. Joining forces with designer Alan Peckolick, the two merge studios to become Pushpin Lubalin Peckolick in 1982.
