Verböten is a new musical inspired by Narducy's 1980's Evanston-based teenage punk rock band, Verböten. They range from full-on punk to musical theater rock-lite, but they’re all emotionally resonant earworms, performed earnestly and ably by this brilliantly crafted ensemble. Chris deals with absent parents and a sister who uses him as her drinking buddy.
The Verböten cast began learning the music this past fall, with Narducy guiding them through the tougher passages. Jason is fixated on adjusting to his new life by writing “Broken Home” which turns into the band’s anthem. It’s 1983 in Chicago and it’s do-or-die for Verböten—a band that is made up of outsider teens with seriously complex home lives.
