Having signed a contract with Pat Powers, Iwerks went to work for the man who had withheld money from Disney Brothers Productions. He jumped at the offer. Iwerks was the lead animator on the Mickey Mouse shorts and soon Steamboat Willie made history by adding sound to the then silent films.
