The undulating path begins in Winchester and moves past Cheesefoot Head, the towns of Petersfield and Arundel, the village of Steyning, Devil's Dyke viewpoint near Brighton, and miles of chalk downland, finally ending in Eastbourne..
We opted for the latter as wanted more time to stop and savour the scenery (and local beers) on the way. To cycle the South Downs Way takes 2 or 3 days if you are used to off road cycling. Cycling in the South Downs is almost as popular as walking with coastal tracks, circular routes and bike hire companies providing ample excuses to get out of the city and go cycling in the South Downs. It’s around 100 miles in total, so easily do-able in three or four days.

The South Downs Way is a great off-road ride for mountain bike with spectacular countryside, some challenging climbs and plenty of places to stay on route.
A rideable NDW would be the third trail of its kind, behind the South Downs Way and the Pennine Bridleway which was launched in 2012.
Monk’s House, Rodmell – this was the home of Virginia Woolf, now owned by the National Trust and open to the public.
